Artist Statement:

You know that movie where Curly and Mitch are having a conversation about that ONE THING!

✽ Excerpt from 'City Slickers' movie script
Curly: Do you know what the secret of life is?

Curly: This. [holds up one finger]

   Mitch: Your finger?

Curly: One thing. Just one thing.
You stick to that and the rest don't mean ****.

Mitch: But what is the "one thing?"

Curly: [smiles] That's what YOU have to find out.

I am very grateful that I did long ago and I'm still at it.

The Japanese call it *ikigai * 'something one lives for', 'a reason for being'.

Everyone, according to the Japanese, has an ikigai.  The French call it raison d'être.  Finding "IT" requires a deep and often lengthy search of self.  Such a search is regarded as being very important, since it is believed that discovery of one's ikigai brings satisfaction and meaning to life.

painting = joy.  A lovely life equation!

Permanent Collection "Women Beyond Borders":

WBB1@0 2

"Dream's Fly"

My sculptural piece "Dream's Fly" is included in the Women Beyond Borders permanent collection. A Collaborative Project Exhibit at the Maturango Museum. The project starts with a 4" long wood box including lid wrapped in a red ribbon. Artist's had complete freedom to create their personal expression utilizing this plain simple box as a starting point.

This is an exhibit that travels internationally as well as in the states. Women Beyond Borders is an exciting, ground breaking project. It's untraditional, open ended, indeterminate and inclusive quality recalls some of the liberating works of the 60's.

My box was based on a woman finding her passion. The box contained small bells within it to stir the 'idea'. The box was then sculpted to its end as a mother bird entitled "Dreams Fly".

Statement for "Dream's Fly":
Inside this box, within a bird, a dream is sealed. Pick-up and hold this wise, matriarchal creature. Shake her gently and listen. Hear her dream stir? What is within her; within you? Permit your vision to awaken emboldened, released with wings spread and soar beyond every limitation that you impress upon yourself. Goethe said, “Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.” Truly, all women have dreams and passions pleading to be set free on the wings of imaginary flight.
